The Intro, Kinda

Hi there, I’m Jenn. I’m a full time web designer, part time artist/crafter/artisan. I recently opened an Etsy shop, and business certainly gives me a new perspective on my crafting! In order to create products that will sell, I continuously re-examing my work to figure out how I can improve it, trying to make items that are as beautiful AND useful as possible while expressing my personal style. It’s been a lot of work, and a lot of fun. Now I just need some more sales!

I set up an experimental blog on WordPress.com a few months ago, but decided to set up a ‘real’ website, before this gets too big. I’m a web designer after all, so my site’s gotta be good 🙂 So this is only ‘kinda’ an intro, because technically I already started the blog, only….it was also technically a different one. Hmm…

I hope to share ideas with other creative people out there through this blog. I’ll include some tutorials, advice on techniques, materials, selling on Etsy–basically about anything I learn that I think is worth posting, I will share with you. Some tech-y tips will also be included from time to time for you bloggers and Etsians who could use the computer help 🙂 I’ll also keep you up to date on my latest projects. If you enjoy my blog, I’d love to hear from you!

Hi Jenn,
Id like to send you a private message.
How can i do that?

Hey Jenn,

I would to ask your opinion on a pattern, how do I send you a foto of it?? I really can’t identify the stitch, it looks very similar to your crochet ribbed scarf…but I am not sure, could you tell me how to contact you to send you the photo??

Thanks a lot!

i need some booties patterns plxx help me

Can we sell items made from your patterns?

Thanks for letting me know! 😀

No, my patterns will be for personal use only, sorry 🙁 Though I encourage anyone to make modifications to create their own patterns.

funny, I’m also a full-time web developer and a part-time crocheter hihi

Thanks so much for this pattern! I made it with hot pink alpaca and it’s gorgeous! Your work is beautiful! Do you make hats? I’d love to see them if you have. Happy Holidays!

I have never blogged, and have have not crocheted for a long time. I am 62 and retired. I think of myself as a frustrated artist. I have always enjoyed trying something new. You are truly inspiring.

P.S. Thank you for the rosette pattern.

Wow–this blog was linked in Designing Vashti’s blog. I am a 50+ year old who’s been crocheting since I was 10. I kind of thought most of my children’s generation was not interested in all that “crafty-needlework” stuff based on the response when I offer to teach it to youth groups, etc. Seemed like the only ones who learned it were the kids in juvenile detention forced to do it for “community service” when they made baby hats or blankets for shelters. It’s exciting to see such great work! I am inspired and am going to do much more with my own crochet thanks to these blogs.

jenn..

I’ve been looking around a LOT on etsy for a bootie pattern that looks as nice as your finished product looks.. and I’ve been unsuccessful!! So… I am here to bug you to put up the pattern for the nice, crisp, tight, neat looking booties. They are well shaped, and nicely rounded at the toe and heel. They are really the best I’ve seen out there. I do a lot of crocheting, and my stuff is nice, but, I know a true artist when I see one– and you’re one. You just have the touch of a great designer. I’m looking forward to seeing your pattern come out.
Very Sincerely,

The rosette is just delightful. Easy and quite pretty.
I too would be interested in your bootie pattern. I JUST can’t get it right.. yours look so even and neat. I’ve been crocheting a long while but just can’t seem to follow the directions well on other booties.

The booties look neat and crisp– not lumpy.. even tho you say they were before blocking!

thanks…

Hi Jenn, I am interested in purchasing the booties pattern. Looking forward to it.

hi! love your booties with rosette
i’d like to purchase your pattern. hope you’ll let me know once it’s available.
thanks! more power 🙂

Hi Angie, thank you so much for the compliments! I am definitely still planning on selling patterns for all of my items. I started preparing the pattern for sale a month or so ago (right now they’re just scribbled on paper), but now have been spending all of my spare time preparing winter accessories. How far along are you friends in their pregnancies? Maybe I will have the patterns ready in time. I’ll keep in mind that you’re waiting and let you know. Feel free to stop by sometimes and bug me a little to rush me along, I really do want to get my patterns up on Etsy, but I keep putting it off 🙂 You might also want to check into other patterns available on etsy.com, I think there are a lot of them.

Hi Jenn,

I absolutely adore your booties, the designs are original and extremely cute! I read on your old blog that you were thinking of selling your patterns, are you still planning on doing this? I would be interested as I have a couple of friends who are expecting babies in the new year and I think they would be blown away if I managed to make a gift for them as nice as this! I am pretty new to knitting and crochet and have been practising knitted booties but these are so much nicer.

Thanks
Angie

I have a few things going on the web, so I’m not sure which link you’re looking for, so here’s all of them:

my old blog: jennozkan.wordpress.com (there are only a few posts there, and you’ll notice a couple of them were re-posted on my new blog.)
my new blog: jennozkan.com (duh)
my Etsy shop: etsy.com/shop/JennOzkan
my web design website: freshlooksmedia.com

Thanks for stopping by!

Hey Jenn! This is your dear old dad. I really like the new site and I am really proud of how you have become a self starter with your web business and now your “fun” business. The reality is that you should keep working until you find a way to make your “fun” business your only business. Don’t wait until you are my age to realize that life is too short….

Love,

Dad

Hi Jenn!
